A guide to the ‘new normal’
Employers around the country are legally obliged to ensure that working environments are safe to return to and continue working in, and employees should not feel ‘forced’ to return if they feel unsafe.
Government guidelines have been outlined for employees and their factory workers to follow, in a bid to prevent COVID-19 from spreading. By carrying out procedures and certain activities, the workplace can be a much safer place to continue working in.
Basic cleanliness is to be consistent and regularly adhered to, along with social distancing encourage at all times.
A workplace under new COVID-19 restrictions will be required to take the necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of everyone concerned:
- Hand sanitising stations to stop the spread of COVID-19
- If working from home isn’t possible, keep 2m apart at work
- Certain work activities may need careful consideration if distancing cannot be achieved
- Hand washing encouraged
- Surfaces cleaned more frequently
- Make guidelines clear and available to see

For any business to re-open and remain safe for its employees a cleaning routine should be drawn up so that the workplace can be clean before, during and after working hours. An initial deep clean will greatly reduce the risk of COVID-19, with regular cleaning schedules thereafter.
